This page is dedicated to the author’s professional and pro bono Activities. After all, as Bernard Shaw wrote: “A man has arrived when he can do for pleasure what he would otherwise do for nothing” (Man and Superman). A concept so beloved by the English playwright that in Pygmalion he remarked: “Happy is the man who can make a living by his hobby“. A thought that, for intellectual honesty, the West has borrowed from the East. Confucius, in fact, already said: “Choose the job you like best and you will never have to work a single day in your life“. This, at least, is what has been handed down.

So the question is: how can I help you with the expertise I’ve acquired, doing “for pleasure what I would otherwise do for nothing“? The answer is: Advisor.

To avoid misunderstandings, it’s important to clarify who an Advisor is. In other words, to clarify the implicit: the difference between an advisor and a consultant. A consultant is a professional belonging to a specific Community of Discourse à la Lyotard. A person who works primarily in a specific professional and/or disciplinary field. An Advisor, on the other hand, supports the person who avails himself of his services, offering integrated and comprehensive visions and implementing interdisciplinary strategies to effectively achieve specific objectives. An Advisor transcends Communities of Discourse and the fights of power and meaning that occur within them. His interest is solely for the person who has turned to him. This is achieved by offering a set of meta-activities, meta-analyses and meta-visions, aimed at developing strategies and meta-strategies, created in a “tailored,” “made-to-measure” and personal manner. This set of activities is very different from those offered by a consultant and/or a registered freelancer.

Exempli gratia:

  • The lawyer acts as a “procedural substitute” for the party (in Italy). Furthermore, he / she offers advice limited to the law or to the chosen branch(es) of law. In other words, his / her activity includes: “assistance, representation, and defense in proceedings before all courts and in formal arbitration proceedings“- Furthermore, “the professional activity of legal consultancy and out-of-court legal assistance, where connected to judicial activity, if carried out in a continuous, systematic, and organized manner” (Article 2, paragraphs 5 and 6, of Italian Act No. 247/2012);
  • The psychologist is limited to using “cognitive and intervention tools for prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation and psychological support activities aimed at individuals, groups, social organizations, and communities” (Article 1 of Italian Act No. 56/1989);
  • and so on.

In other words, they offer a “compartmental” view of the world.

The Advisor transcends these compartmentalized views. He / she looks at the System in its entirety, according to General Systems Theory (Ludwig von Bertalanffy). This includes all its actions and feedbacks, both negative and positive, according to the first and second Cybernetics.

The Advisor’s objectives are multiple. They aim to improve the client’s ability to understand and control their own lives. In other words, to empower them. The Advisor’s work, as conceived, therefore involves a variety of activities for the client:

  • a) Personal coaching. Provide soft skills such as: leadership; effective communication; problem solving; stress management; coping skills; creativity; critical thinking; time management; etc. Furthermore, personal growth, lifestyle, relaxation techniques, meditation and breathing, prevention and promotion of Health and Well-being from a Systemic and Integrated perspective, quantum PNEI. The goal is to strengthen endurance and resilience, foster self-esteem, self-efficacy and self-determination, and enhance the development of the individual’s potential. Furthermore, act consciously in the environment to promote one’s own and others’ well-being within the framework illustrated;
  • b) The development and implementation of strategies and meta-strategies to achieve objectives, evaluating risks and benefits, pros and cons. This activity includes: situation analysis, goal setting, program implementation and monitoring;
  • c) the creation and coordination of interdisciplinary, integrated and synergistic, teams. This involves selecting professionals as needed (lawyers, psychologists, physician, etc.);
  • d) the continuous evaluation and adjustment of strategies according to the Deming cycle.

Strength of this approach lies in the process of personal growth, the lifestyle adopted, ability to manage stress, meditation and breathing. Furthermore, it lies in the systemic and integrated vision of one’s life and the environment in which one operates. Indeed, all success depends on an individual’s ability to actively shape their own destiny. In other words, the aim is to make a person able to adopt truly free, informed and conscious, decisions based on an internal locus of control. On the contrary, many consultants (including professionals) tend to relegate clients to a passive role: inactive, unaware recipients of others’ choices. Conditions that preclude the development of the personal growth. Yet, the evolution of the skills necessary to be free, conscious protagonists of their own lives.

Currently, Advisory services are primarily focused on the following areas of expertise:

  • Personal coaching;
  • Comprehensive personal advisory services about minors world and ustice. For example, to implement meta-strategies, useful for parents and families, when social services attempt to remove their children from them;
  • Advisory services for people retiring and wishing to remain free and independent, in control of their own lives. For example, avoiding the imposition of a “support administrator” (an Italian legal institution that is, sometimes, abused and misused);
  • Advisory services in the fields of criminal justice, criminology, criminalistics and forensic science. This activity is characterized by the analysis of: a) Legal Decision Making; b) cognitive, social, communication and educational processes; c) police misconducts. These latter aspects are widely studied abroad, but they have also become relevant in Italy. The activity thus provides advices to private individuals who have fallen victims to these bad practices. In particular on the following topics: police psychology and culture; false allegations; false reports; police violence; bad police practices; bad police interrogation techniques and false confessions; psychological tricks used by police; provocation techniques used by the police… and the like. Furthermore, lie-detectors and forensic hypnosis. The latter two are offered only when necessary. This is as their use is not allow in Italy; d) mobbing, bullying, cyberbullying and cybercrime; e) Juvenile Criminal Justice;
  • advisory activities on the abuse and misuse of psychology and psychopathology and their constructs. This appoach include the epistemological and methodological issues of these disciplines. Yet, their lack of of validity, reliability and scientificity;
  • Advisory activities aimed at teaching people how to defend themselves from conditioning, provocation and propaganda techniques, including those used in scams. Furthermore, from the frequent use of sensemaking techniques à la Weik and the creation of hyper reality à la Bourdillard;
